When it was first reported Mary's mother was coming to court, it seemed as if she was the cavalry, coming to support her daughter.

However, according to EOnline, it seems as if Mary and her mother don't have a kind and bonding dynamic between them.

Showrunner and Executive Producer Laurie McCarthy said the arrival of Mary's mother, Marie de Guise (Amy Brenneman), will "throw Mary for a loop."

"That's a fantastic character," McCarthy said of de Guise. "When she does come to court, you can imagine that personality, you can imagine Catherine and those two together."

McCarthy added the relationship between the young queen and her mother may affect fans view of Catherine de Medici. "Catherine may start to look like a very warm mother soon," the showrunner explained.

TVLine.com, reported earlier this week Amy Brenneman's casting as Mary's mother. Brenneman tweeted her excitement about the role:

Yep,it's true. Off to a wardrobe fitting to play the badass, Marie de Guise, on @CWReign. Watch out, @AdelaideKane, mama's coming!

"Reign" is taking a break this week but when the show returns on Dec. 5, the castle is under siege. According to the preview which you can check out below, Francis may be taken hostage and we might see something for the second time that we never thought we'd see even once - Mary and Catherine working together.

Are you excited to meet Mary's mother? Do Mary and Catherine make better teammates or enemies?

"Reign" airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW.
