The Vatican has responded to Donald Trump's bold attack on the Pope's visit to Mexico, defending Pope Francis' stance on immigration and criticizing the Republican candidate himself for not being aware of the Pope's global stance, according to The Washington Post.

Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi said in an announcement on Tuesday that Trump's comments on the Pope being a "political person" are founded on a lack of information.

"The pope always talks about migration problems all around the world, of the duties we have to solve these problems in a humane manner, of hosting those who come from other countries in search of a life of dignity and peace," Lombardi said, according to Crux Now.

One of Pope Francis' core ideologies in his papacy is tolerance and acceptance, as shown in his previous visit to the U.S. last September, when he addressed Congress and urged the lawmakers to not be "fearful of foreigners" and reminded them that many great men of the nation were "descended from immigrants," reported Fox News.

Immigration has been a very prominent focal point in the months before the 2016 presidential elections, with Republican candidates such as Donald Trump and his rival, Ted Cruz, adopting stern stances on the issue of immigrants entering the U.S.
