James Corden, "The Late Late Show" host, will take over the podium at the 2016 Tony Awards, which is scheduled to take place in June, CBS announced on Tuesday.

The English comedian, best known for his "Carpool Karaoke" segment on the late night show, has been chosen as the host of the award show that recognizes achievement in Broadway theater.

Corden is no stanger to the Broadway world himself, making his theater debut with Alan Bennett's "The History Boys" in 2006 and going on to win a Tony Award for his performance in the comedy, "One Man, Two Guvnors," according to The Guardian.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Tony Awards," Corden said in a statement from CBS. "Both times I've worked on Broadway have been amongst the happiest times of my professional life. I consider it to be a huge honor to be asked to host such an incredible night. It's going to be fun; I can't wait to dust off my tap shoes!"

Corden will take over the hosting duties from Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth, who were the hosts at last year's Tony Awards, following in the footsteps of Hugh Jackman and Neil Patrick Harris, BBC News reported.

The 2016 Tony Awards will air on June 12 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
