Roxanne the dog was rescued by owner Rebecca Burley in August, and on Dec. 29, Roxanne did some rescuing of her own, reported ABC10.

While on a morning walk through their Norfolk, Va. neighborhood, Burley and Roxanne noticed that there were many police roaming the area. The dog-owner duo were approached by an officer who asked if they'd seen a woman wandering in a nightgown. Burley said that they hadn't, but that they'd keep their eyes peeled.

Five minutes later, Roxanne was pulling her owner over to a ditch. While Burley would have walked right by the ditch without a second glance, the lab/hound mix had noticed that the missing woman was lying in the ditch, showing signs of distress, according to People Pets.

"I definitely, as a person, would have not been paying attention to the ditch that collects water and where people throw their trash," said Burley, according to USA Today. Luckily, Roxanne knew where to look. Burley quickly contacted the authorities, and an ambulance was called. The woman was rushed to the hospital.

"It's a really interesting story, but we want to know that it turns out okay," said Burley, who hopes that the woman has recovered.

Burley, who regularly volunteers at the Isle of Wight Animal Shelter, rewarded Roxanne after this eventful walk with an extra cookie, ABC10 noted. Burley hopes that Roxanne's heroic act will inspire people to give other shelter dogs a chance.
