Guests for the holidays have left ,and you've got an empty room to fix up. Instead of simply cleaning the area as usual and leaving this closed for when another guest stays, you can turn the extra room into a more useful space so that it serves a double purpose.

Most homeowners often decide to turn guest rooms into a home office since it's easier to fix and clear up when family or friends are over. However, the guest room can also be a fun space. Below are some suggested ideas:

1) Arts & Craft Area

Make your Pinterest inspirations come true by creating an arts and craft area in the guest room. You'll need a desk, some shelving and cabinets to store your arts and craft supplies, boxes and other items. If you're into painting and would like a private space to unleash your creative juices, you can set up an easel in the guest room too. Maybe even have a pegboard, which you can get in different sizes at The Home Depot or Walmart.

For best use of a pegboard, spray it with a color that matches your room's theme and mount it on the wall by adding washers behind it, according to the Little Green Notebook. This will help you move around stuff you've hung on the board more easily.

2) Library

Need a quiet space to curl up and read a good book? Add shelving to put your book collection, a cozy chair and lamp or proper lighting in the guest room, and you'll instantly have your library in the house. The Anders armchair from West Elm is an affordable and comfortable choice for a reading chair and it comes in 74 choices of colors too.

3) Music Room

If you've got musicians in the house, use the guest room to set up the instruments so practices can be done without distractions. If you've got an amazing record collection and would like to indulge and lose yourself in music once in a while, the extra space would perfectly serve this need.

You might need to soundproof the wall, though, and there are plenty of options for this. Watch the video below for ideas:

4) Home Gym

Big and bulky treadmills take up space, so where else can you put them besides an area that's often empty? Use the guest room as your workout space. Perhaps even try to do naked yoga since you'll have the utmost privacy.

5) Theater Room

Set up lots of cozy seats with the TV and media players as the room's focal point. You might even want to have blackout shades or curtains from Bed Bath & Beyond to evoke the feel of a theater.

The thing to remember when setting up the guest room as another area for hobbies and interests is to make sure that the space is divided properly according to function. Your guests must still have a comfortable sleeping area if they're staying overnight or for the weekend.
