The market is riddled with tons of hair growth products found in drugstores and beauty stores. However, there is one hair growth cure that can be very easily found in your kitchen, and it's the ingredient British hairdresser Nicky Lazou claims works best for growing thick, fuller hair.

Lazou has dubbed herself the "hair magician," and she apparently takes good care of the hair of the women in the United Arab Emirates' royal family, according to Express. She says that onion juice is her not-so-secret hair growth product, and she explains how she makes use of this in a YouTube video.

In it, Lazou shows how to make a hair mask with onions mixed with other kitchen ingredients: ginger, garlic, castor oil, honey and almond oil. These items apparently help strengthen the hair from the roots and aid in blood circulation to boost hair growth. These ingredients are said to also deliver vitamins and minerals that keep the hair soft, smooth, shiny and healthy so that hair loss is prevented.

Lazou says the mask will not make your hair smell like onions. "No not after you shampoo. Don't be put off, try it. It's great," she responded to one question on YouTube.

Lazou has more than15 years experience as a hair stylist and is well known for her balayage technique. The process is for non-traditional hair coloring, which is widely done in the U.K, per Marie Claire.

However, trichologist Zoë Passam warned that there's no scientific proof that the onion hair-growth mask is effective. "I do not know of any proven benefits of onion juice in relation to hair loss," said Passam, via the Huffington Post. "My concern with the advice is that people are being instructed to rub the [mask] into their scalp, which in itself could end up doing more harm than good, potentially causing mechanical hair loss, if done regularly over a period of time."

Passam also advised that if hair loss is indeed a problem, it's best to seek professional help and get a proper diagnosis first before trying anything.
