Carol's shocking confession on episode three of "The Walking Dead" is going to have serious and unexpected repercussions. In the episode viewers saw that the group at the prison had to deal with a new threat - a sickness that was quickly killing people and turning them into zombies.

To help get the situation under control Carol made the decision to kill two of the sick people. Without telling anyone she killed Karen and David and then dragged their bodies outside and burned them.

Tyreese was the one who made the horrific discovery after going to visit his girlfriend. When he demanded to know who was responsible, Carol didn't fess up. She only confessed to being the killer when Rick put the pieces together and questioned her about it.

It didn't seem like Carol felt sorry for what she did and told Rick she was only trying to stop the illness from spreading to other people even though some of the group members were out on a run to find medicine. Also she didn't put an end to the illness as more and more and people ended up getting sick including Glenn.

Rick, clearly shocked by the confession, was left with several choices - either ignore what she did or let the others know. Executive producer Robert Kirkman didn't reveal what Rick will do but he did say that Carol's decision would have some serious consequences, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"The outcome of this going to be something that none of them have been expecting and none of them could have prepared for," Kirman said.

"There's definitely going to be repercussions coming from that. I don't think Rick anticipated this danger that was inside the prison to be revealed to be someone they were so close with," he continued. "This is going to be a pretty interesting direction."

Kirkman said Carol is a different person than before and is trying to do everything in her power so another "Sophie-like" situation never happens again. He also hinted that she is fully aware that her actions will have some type of consequence and is prepared to handle what may happen.

Since Rick is the only one who knows about the confession he is left with a hard decision to make. Viewers already know that he has been trying to avoid the leadership role and this will be his first test to see if he has what it takes to step up to the plate.

Other hints Kirkman revealed about the new season: the group considers and discusses whether living outside the prison is better for them but their decision remains a mystery, Carl might need to be watched a little more closely and even though Rick and Tyreese got into a fight they could end up becoming pretty good friends.
