The Philadelphia 76ers announced on Monday evening that they would be bringing in Chairman of the Board of Directors for USA Basketball Jerry Colangelo as the Special Advisor to the Managing General Partner and Chairman of Basketball Operations, basically usurping general manger Sam Hinkie of his power. With this change it seemed as though Brett Brown's future with the organization would be in limbo but it is now being reported that they are discussing an extension with Brown, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports

76ers ownership was reportedly already discussing a new deal with Brown before they announced these changes to the organization and these changes won't change their plan to pursue an extension. Brown originally signed a four year deal with the 76ers and he now has a year and a half left on that deal.

Brown's overall record with the 76ers in two-plus season is an astonishingly bad 38-147 including a 1-20 start to this season. Despite the fact that his record is so bad the 76ers have had confidence in him all along as Hinkie had been going with a "tanking" method in an effort to get as many young players as possible so from the outset Brown has been in a no-win situation with a subpar roster.

Brown has reportedly impressed the organization with how determined and resourceful he is while also keeping his composure despite the fact that he has one of the toughest head coaching jobs in sports. There isn't a timeline for when a deal might get done between Brown and the 76ers but at this point it seems pretty clear that the losing shouldn't result in him losing his job. With Colangelo now on board the hope is that the 76ers can build a roster that allows Brown to show what he can do when he isn't under-manned.
