BBM for Android and iOS got a surprisingly grand opening with more than 10 million downloads in less than 24 hours.

The impressive response to BBM by several Android and iOS users clearly suggests the app is worth the wait. BBM is gaining great reviews from the users on Google Play Store with 4+ star ratings and has achieved the number one slot in more than 75 countries in Apple App Store free app ranking. The free app secured more than 81,000 five star ratings (including mine) out of 120,000 total reviews on Google Play Store. It is finally time to congratulate BlackBerry for the successful launch of BBM.

"It's been 24 hours since we resumed the launch of BBM for Android and iPhone. And what a day it's been! We've already had more than 10 million downloads of BBM," Andrew Bocking, EVP at BBM, said in the company's blog post expressing his excitement.

"I want to thank our customers - old and new - our employees, and our partners for their enthusiasm and commitment. BBM is looking great on iPhone, Android and BlackBerry, and the team here is very excited about the success of this launch."

BlackBerry wanted to ensure the multi-platform launch of its exclusive instant messaging service was carried out without any troubles. Hence, the company followed a streamlined process of setting up a queue system for users who sign up for the app. The Canadian phone maker will notify users when the app is ready for use by sending an email to their registered email address on the app. The wait time is not specified but some users are still waiting for the email to arrive, which could take several hours, days or even weeks. After all, the company must offer the service to its more than 10 million users without crashing the servers.

The successful launch of the app is acknowledged by a promise to introduce more services including BBM Video, BBM Voice and BBM Channels to Android and iOS users. The company said that it has several other new features in the pipeline.
