Season 6 of "Glee" will be the last season for the show. Series creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that the next season will be it for the series and the finale will honor Finn Hudson, TV Line reports.

He told the website that originally Season 6 was going to focus on Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Monteith) but following Monteith's tragic death the finale had to be rewritten but was still going to honor the late actor and his character.

"The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn's story," he said. "I always knew that, I always knew how it would end. I knew what the last shot was - he was in it. I knew what the last line was - she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we're figuring that out now."

Murphy said he has already worked out a new ending for the show but wouldn't reveal what would happen.

"I have a good idea," he said. "I'm going to tell the studio and the network [in a week] how after Cory's unfortunate passing we can end the show that I think is very satisfactory. And kind of in his honor, which I love."

"Glee" recently said "Farewell to Finn" on Oct. 10 in a touching tribute episode titled "The Quarterback." The episode reportedly brought in a total of 7.4 million viewers, up 75 percent from the following week.

It started off with a beautiful rendition of "Seasons of Love" from the Broadway show "Rent." It began three weeks after Finn's funeral but did not reveal how the character died. Murphy had said that he wanted the episode to focus on Finn's life and not how the character died.

"We wrote it because we loved Cory. So the episode is about how all the people loved Cory and find it really hard to go on with the show so to speak, but that's the whole point of this show," Murphy told E! Online.

Murphy also said that Finn wouldn't be forgotten and fans and viewers will see small reminders of his presence during future episodes.

"I just made a decision that we keep mentioning Finn," he said. "We don't just say this is done and we're never going to go back to it, so that resonates throughout the year."

"We're trying to be sensitive and also have some fun and go back to some optimistic stories," he continued. "I think he would have wanted that, he always loved that about the show."
