Jeane Napoles, 23, was charged with tax evasion on Thursday after bringing attention to her spending habits by posting pictures on her social media accounts, the Huffington Post reported.

Napoles' mother, Janet Napoles, is currently being investigated for allegedly helping members of the Philippine parliament embezzle 10 billion pesos ($230 million) in government funds, according to the Huffington Post.

Three opposition senators as well as former president Gloria Arroyo, who is in jail for election fraud and graft, are among those swept up in the investigation and could face criminal charges for misuse of funds, along with Janet Napoles, News.au.com reported.

The Huffington Post reported that prior to the scandal, Jeane regularly took to Tumblr, Instagram and YouTube to document her high-flying lifestyle which caught the attention of the Bureau of Internal Revenues.

Since she became a registered taxpayer in 2008, the daughter of Janet Lim-Napoles, the alleged mastermind behind the P10-billion pork barrel scam, has not declared any income, according to the Huffington Post.

The young Napoles was living in a Ritz Carlton condominium in Los Angeles, which she is now trying to sell for $1.475 million, as well as a $339,000 home in the Philippines, according to the Huffington Post.

After the Philippine newspapers reported Janet Napoles involvement in the scandal in June, Jeane's posts and pictures on Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr drew outrage in the impoverished country. Since then, Jeane has deactivated all of her social accounts, according to News.com.au.

"We read the newspapers. We follow the Internet. That is where we heard about her," Bureau of Internal Revenue chief Kim Henares told News.com.au.

After reports that the Napoles' were selling their multimillion-dollar properties in the United States, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said the government could not stop the sale of these assets pending its request for US help in freezing these assets, News.com.au reported.
