In last night’s episode of “The Vampire Diaries” we finally got to meet Dr. Wes Maxfield (Rick Cosnett) and he proved he’s both smart and mysterious. According to a recent interview Cosnett did with TVGuide, the mystery won’t last too long.

"Elena and Caroline are coming into my world, and in bits and pieces, they're starting to discover parts of Dr. Maxfield," Cosnett said. "He shows a lot about the human condition and how things go wrong and the dichotomy between good and evil."

As of right now, it seems Elena (Nina Dobrev) won’t have time to deal with Dr. Maxfield since she’ll be dealing with a much larger issue closer to home. At the end of last night’s episode Elena arrived back in Mystic Falls where Sherriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) uncovered the safe that Silas (Paul Wesley) threw Stefan (also played by Wesley) in. Unfortunately when Sherriff Forbes, Elena and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) opened the giant safe, they didn't find Stefan. Instead they found a dead man with half his neck missing. As Sherriff Forbes pointed out if Stefan was truly out of the water, he’s probably very hungry after drowining repeatedly for three months.

If Stefan is extremely hungry, then there’s a chance that Mystic Falls could have two problems—Silas and Stefan the Ripper.

It is important to note here that TV Guide recently reported Katherine (also played by Dobrev) would help in saving Stefan. Since she has yet to do so, is it possible that Silas moved Stefan out of the box and he’s still drowning? Or will she help them find wherever he's gone off to after leaving the safe?

Episode 2 also saw hope for “Stelena” shippers as Elena admitted she had been thinking about Stefan a lot and she even used her Stefan thoughts to break loose of Silas’ spell. However, according to pictures given to TVLine.com, it doesn’t look like Delena is breaking up any time soon.

The photos show Elena and Damon together at the Whitmore Historical Ball. The pictures are from the Oct. 31 episode which means Damon and Elena could last until the end of the month.

“The Vampire Diaries” airs Thursdays at 8/7c on The CW.
