A lot of gamers have wondered whether the DualShock 4 would be compatible with the PC or whether Sony is releasing new drivers for it. If you’re one of those who prefer the traditional analogue sticks over the next-gen touchpad devices, you’re in for some good news from Sony.

Shuhei Yoshida, Worldwide Studios’ President for Sony Computer Entertainment, has confirmed through his personal Twitter account that the DualShock 4 controller of PS4 will be compatible with the basic functions of Windows PCs. Furthermore, he has responded to a question on Twitter and has confirmed that a DualShock 4 driver is not necessary to gain Windows PCs compatibility since the analog sticks and buttons are already enough. This means that the controller would have Windows compatibility feature by default but only for ‘’basic functions.”

Yoshida’s statement has led many people to speculate that Sony will allow PC users to take advantage of the next-gen DualShock 4 controller as a full-on tool in gaming. However, he has advised everyone to wait for a “post-launch” report to find out if Windows would instantly recognize the DualShock 4’s functionality as a controller. This is because the Dualshock 3 now does not.

It should also be remembered that a lot of non-Microsoft controllers have the Xinput API. For this reason, they get registered to the computer as if they were an Xbox controller. The current DualShock 3 has no Xinput, making it a significant transition if the DualShock 4 will have support features.

If you’re willing to wait and you think that it’s all worth it after all, it shouldn’t take that long as the PS4 will soon be launching on the Nov. 15 in North America and Nov. 29 in Europe. Hopefully, everything will become much clearer as the launch date approaches.
