Australia seems to be a step ahead in a number of fronts lately, with a new law set to deny government benefits to anti-vaccine parents and an announcement that the country is the first nation to receive Tesla's hyped Powerwall battery storage system, a revolutionary way to harness and store solar energy to power homes.

Tesla, the maker of the iconic Model S electric sedan, says that its 7kWH home energy units would be available in Australia by the end of the year, which is ahead of previous predictions stating that the battery storage systems will be available next year, reported The Guardian.

The units will be distributed by Tesla Energy, which will be established in Australia. Tesla Energy is set to bring both the residential Powerwall units, as well as the industrial-grade Powerpack, into the country.

The Powerwall energy units work in a similar way to the battery of the company's Model S, which uses a rechargeable llithium-ion battery. The only difference is that it can be mounted on the wall of a house, where it will store energy that is collected by solar panels.

Theoretically, this means that there may be a time when homes can go completely off the grid with Tesla's technology, according to Gizmodo Australia.

With this technology coming to residential homes in Australia, a new era of clean, renewable energy may finally be closer to man's reach.
