Authorities at the Utah/Arizona border have stated that a flash flood on Monday night resulted in the death of six people. The victims were in two vehicles, which were struck by waves of water caused by the sudden flooding. Seven people are also missing..

Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Barlow of the Hildale, Utah fire department said that the victims are women and small children, with the youngest only four-years-old, according to CNN News.

The flooding began due to heavy rains which struck the area Monday late afternoon. The rains were so intense that flooding immediately occurred in the sister towns of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona, reports KFVS News.

The rush of water eventually became so intense that it caused a huge wave of water to smash into two vehicles with 16 people inside. Both vehicles and their occupants were washed downstream.

Most of the people in the community were members of the polygamous sect known as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS), which is run by Warren Jeffs. The towns were about 315 miles away from Salt Lake City, Utah.

About 60 to 70 people are now searching the border for signs of the missing people.
