Judge Joe Brown, the former TV judge, was released from jail after serving his five-day prison sentence, USA Today reported. He was released from a Memphis, Tenn. jail early on Tuesday morning.

"Jail's jail. It's boring, it's dirty," he told People. "But I survived. I'm breathing free air."

Brown's arrest stemmed from charged dating back to March 2014, when he was representing a woman during a child support case, as previously reported by HNGN. He was sentenced to five days in Shelby County Jail for contempt of court.

But Brown, the star of CBS' courtroom show "Judge Joe Brown," told People that he was charged because he was unable to control himself when he saw that Juvenile Court Magistrate Harold Horne wasn't treating his client with respect and courtesy during the hearing.

"A citizen was being gravely mistreated," Brown said. "I couldn't allow that to happen. I had an opportunity to stand up for her and I took it."

He also announced that he will use his experience with the Shelby County Corrections Center as inspiration for a new television series, "True Verdict with Judge Joe Brown." The show is aiming for a 2016 release and it will be focused on giving a voice to people in need.

"You need to help folks. I'm giving back and I'm encouraging others to do so too," Brown told People. "Do the right thing. Do what you ought to do. We can all help each other."
