AMC's colossal hit "The Walking Dead" returns for its fourth season on Oct. 19 and with it, the group of survivors led by Rick Grimes. The question is, what can people expect the survivors they've come to know and love over three long seasons to be faced with next?

***SPOILER ALERT: The remainder of this article will contain spoilers from season 3 and possibly season 4.***

We've seen the survivors face down threats from within, threats from outside and, of course, hoard after hoard of reanimated corpses out to feast on human flesh. In the upcoming fourth season, the produces say they've opted for a new kind of threat that's "not really walkers" nor is it "other people," according to co-executive producer Denise Huth, via Yahoo TV.

This has led many to believe that the new threat will be a change in the way that the Walkers operate. Perhaps they'll get more intelligent or start to adapt to their situation and environment better - probably not.

Robert Kirkman, creator of the original comic books and executive producer of the show told TVLine the survivors will be facing some "really intense, scary, very detail-oriented zombies [this season]. More so than anything you've seen thus far."

However, on the subject of making the walkers evolve, Kirkman didn't seem on board with the idea.

"As far as changing their methods or behavior or evolving in any kind of major way, that's really just not the point of the show," he said. "The show is about these characters. And the zombies are present and they will always be a threat, but the show isn't really about these creatures evolving into something new."

One thing is clear, the characters from the show will be facing threats from zombies throughout the season as the trailer at Comic-Con seemed to highlight the impact that walkers will have on the prison gang. Check out the trailer for the upcoming season below.
