It's back-to-school season again and shopping is in full swing. As parents flock to stores to purchase new supplies for their children, new items are cropping up their kid's "wanted" list. Many of these items are for decorating lockers.

Indeed, students are jazzing up their small space in school with wallpaper, rugs and other home decorating facets, according to JS Online. Retailers like Target and Meijer have caught on with the trend by offering the kids a selection of locker decor items.

"Personalization continues to be a growing trend for back to school as kids want their school supplies to reflect their personal style," said Target spokeswoman, Amy Joiner. "This year, Target is offering a variety of stylish locker accessories like a disco ball, shag locker rug and magnetic fashion wallpapers to dress up the standard locker."

Parents apparently have seen this trend coming for some time now.

"The kids lately... I mean, we never did this when I was a kid. But decorating their lockers, there's all these really cool things you can do. You can buy these chandeliers and disco balls and rugs and it's kind of a big deal at school," said Sarah Blue, a mom from Chicago, according to ABC 7. Blue herself is taking an active part in decorating her daughter's locker.

There are also hundreds of locker decorating video tutorials on YouTube. Some of these have earned millions of hits.

So, what are the kids decking their school lockers with?

1. Wallpapers are top on the list, but these can be expensive. To save on cost, scrapbook paper, which sells for a little more than $1 per sheet, is more practical. Check out the selections of scrapbook paper from Scrapbooking For Less.

2. Magnets serve a double purpose. It's a decorative item and at the same time, kids can stick photos on their lockers with them. To minimize expenses, kids can use promotional items and giveaway magnets and redecorate them with stickers. However, some may prefer to personalize magnets at Shutterfly, which cost anywhere from $6 to $15.

3. Locker mirrors are essentials. Students can spruce up their locker looking glass by using markers or adding stickers and patterns on the side of the mirrors.

4. Baskets or storage containers keep your back-to-schooler's locker organized and tidy. Kids can use them to store school supplies like pens, paper clips and other tangibles.
