Two 13-year-old girls accused of trying to kill their friend in honor of the fictitious Slender man plead not guilty in court on Friday, according to the Associated Press. The pair will stand trial together starting Oct. 15.

The judge entered a not guilty plea on behalf of both girls, who have not been identified, at an arraignment hearing on Friday, Fox News reported.

Defense lawyers had no objection to the pleas, but they did object to the court's jurisdiction, as they believe that the young girls should be tried in juvenile court.

As it is right now, the two girls will be tried as adults for allegedly stabbing their friend 19 times. At the time of the stabbing, the girls were 12 and 13, according to ABC News.

The two teens were arrested on May 31, 2014 after the alleged stabbing of their 12-year-old friend, Payton Leutner, in Waukesha, Wis. Both girls were reportedly "obsessed" with Slender Man, a fictitious online figure believed to stalk and kill children.

One of the girls was reported to have drawings of Slender Man in her room along with dismembered Barbie dolls. They also reportedly told authorities that it was "necessary" to kill their friend to become "proxies" of Slender Man, ABC News reported.

Both girls are facing charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide. If convicted, both of them could face up to 65 years in prison.
