Steve Nash ended his professional basketball career on a very down note when he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers and was unable to play much in his three years there. He is now retired and looking for other ventures to get involved with and has apparently found one. Nash will be one of the executive producers on a new movie about the origins of the recreational drug molly, according to Dave McNary of Variety

The film is going to take place in 1980's Dallas where the the global rave movement supposedly began. Molly, which was a legal form of ecstasy back then, was at the forefront of the rave movement.

Molly became illegal in 1985 but that hasn't stopped people from using it. It is synonomus with EDM (Electronic Dance Music). The director of the film, Dori Oskowitz, has experience with EDM films and music in general. Oskowitz just rapped up a documentary entitled "Blackout," about EDM. He has also directed music videos for artists such as Pharrell, Kesha, Lenny Kravitz and Jack White among many others. Oskowitz's video with Jack White for the song "I'm Shakin" won a grammy.

Oskowitz will direct while Braxton Pope produce. Nash and his cousin, Ezra Holland, will executive produce the film. Pope recently produced "The Trust," starring Nicolas Cage, and has worked with Oskowitz before on a Passion Pit's music video for the song "Constant Conversations."

Nash said he became interested in the project from having played in Dallas during the early years of his career.

"Having played in Dallas for six years, I was drawn to this project for its relationship with the city. After poring over the material I found an incredibly unique story with so many vibrant characters and a bold history known as the origin to the rave scene ecstasy culture. Its footprints are now all over the world," said Nash.

This isn't Nash's first foray into the film production business as he has produced commercials before for Nike but this will be his first feature film under his production company that he started with his cousin.
