Katherine Heigl is not going to return on this season of "Grey's Anatomy," according to Shonda Rhimes.

"No," Rhimes said at ABC's Television Critics Association press tour, shaking her head as she answered, according to TV Line. "I'm done with that story. I've turned that idea over in my mind a thousand times and thought about how it would go. And I don't think so."

Heigl starred on the surgical drama for five seasons from 2005-2010 and has fond memories of the show. "It's been this incredible thing," she said, according to Hollywood Life. "It was just this incredible experience for me. It changed the course of my life and career and I couldn't be more grateful. I just hope it goes for as long as they all want it to."

While Rhimes dismissed the rumors of Heigl's return, she did share some juicy spoilers about the upcoming season, reported Entertainment Weekly. Rhimes said that the show is going to pick up three months after the tragic death of Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd and has a much lighter tone.

"Grey's Anatomy" returns on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. EDT.
