World No. 4 Ferrer has quietly gone about his business at this year's US Open.  Ferrer, who's 45-14 on the season with two titles, has needed four sets to win in each of his previous three matches.

He defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round (6-3, 6-7, 6-1, 6-2), then Mikhail Kukushkin in the second (6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4) and Janko Tipsarevic in the third (7-6, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6).

Much like Tommy Robredo's upset victory on Monday against Roger Federer, Tipsarevic threatened to send Ferrer packing.

"Yes, it was a very tough match.  Janko and me, we play a very good match.  We had a lot of chance, both players," Ferrer told USOpen.org.  "Well, I think it was my best match this weeks."

Asked the deciding moment of the match, Ferrer said: "...Maybe the key was in the third set, no?  He was 5-4, 40-Love, three set points up.  Well, I don't know what happen if I lost that set.  But, anyways, I try to be focus every point, to fight.  Well, finally I can win."

Standing between Ferrer and the semifinals is World No. 9 Gasquet, who's 37-14 with this season with two titles - one at Doha and one at Montpellier.  He reached the fourth round this year at Roland Garros and the Australian Open, and he made it to the third round at Wimbledon.

Wednesday is the tenth meeting between the two.  Gasquet has only won once in their previous nine meetings (2008 Toronto).  They last faced each other in the fourth round of the 2012 US Open - Ferrer won in three sets.
