The CW released the first Season 5 promo for “The Vampire Diaries” today and it seems there could be a couple faceoff—Damon/Elena vs. Silas/Katherine/

There’s no way to know from the video if Katherine (Nina Dobrev) knows she’s talking to Silas (Paul Wesley), but no one would be surprised if he’s revealed himself to her early in the season. It would probably be a pretty smart move seeing as how she likes to ruin Elena (also played by Dobrev) and her friends’ lives. (It’s times like these where we need the good heart of Elijah [Daniel Gillies] to balance out all that evil she has going on.)

On a side note, why anyone would want to mess with Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) is beyond me. He sees ghosts and hunts vampires. It’s a safe bet that he’s probably going to win a lot of fights.

Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) sentence, “If I hear the word doppelganger one more time I’m going to have to learn how to spell it,” most likely means he’s figured out Stefan is no longer himself.

According to TVGuide.com, citing a source, it won’t be too long before the rest of the cast realizes Stefan (also played by Wesley) is actually Silas. The source said also said it also we won’t be too far into the season before “Stefan” acts out of character.

 “But before [everyone figures it out], get ready to witness the most awkward reunion ever when the Salvatores literally hug it out after their summer apart,” said the source. “You'd think that a hug from Stefan would be Damon's first clue that something is up!”

Season 5 of the Vampire Diaries premieres Thusday, Oct. 3, 10/9c on The CW.
