The launch of the 2016 Mazda MX-5, which is marketed as the Miata in the U.S., hogged technology and motoring headlines for a while with its much applauded design. Florida Weekly, for instance, managed to write the most appropriate descriptions as it called the vehicle the "perfect roadster," "home run of design," "affordable," and "underappreciated."

The glowing reviews were edged out, however, by an odd news involving the Miata recently. A couple crashed it mere minutes after purchasing the new Launch Edition from the Tom Bush Mazda dealership in Jacksonville, Fla. A Ford F-150 rear-ended the brand new roadster, and then pushed it into another car in front, Car Scoops reported. The passengers were unharmed, but the car was a wreck.

The devastated couple shared their experience at a Miata forum. Posting with the user name, SCSM, the owner said, "we were right up there as one of the early owners in starting our new adventure with the ND. But, at around 4:00 PM or so, BAM. BAM, and our beautiful new LE was no more. We were shaken, Joanne took a ride with the EMT's to the hospital and I was left dazed, amazed, stressed, and whatever emotion one could experience."

Upon learning about the incident, Mazda USA decided to send in a new replacement without additional cost to the owners. "I received two calls from MNAO informing me that my name was on a replacement LE 6MT that is in transit and will dock in Jacksonville around August 15," SCSM said in a Bold Ride report.

The 2016 MX-5 line has three models: Sport, Club and Grand Touring. While the latter, with a starting price of $30,065 is considered the "luxe" model, it may not necessarily be the best as the Club model, priced at $28,600, which can prove to be better for drivers who would like to throw it into corners, writes SlashGear. Long as there are no Ford F-150s around, that is.
