The release of OnePlus 2 today is perhaps one of the most anticipated in the mobile industry if only for the fact that OnePlus One, its predecessor, thoroughly impressed both fans and critics alike last year. It was touted as the "flagship killer," which means that it is able to trounce flagship devices introduced by the likes of Samsung and HTC. The device was able to present comparable and, in some areas, better hardware and performance but with a dramatically low price point. OnePlus One is also sold through an invite system that frustrated but also intrigued customers to no end.

Ahead of the Monday release, leaks and rumors have already circulated so techies and fans have had their fill as to the handset's potential make, specifications, speed and style. It is known, for instance, that OnePlus 2 will have the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and a staggering 4GB of memory, Technobuffalo reported. Other information is also available at the OnePlus website, where a slogan promises that the new edition will be a flagship killer in 2016, but that it is also going to be "ahead of its time."

The latest leak about OnePlus 2 takes the cake: it is a video of the actual device itself being benchmarked with Antutu. There is no commentary in the footage and the operating system is in Chinese so no information is available except for what was demonstrated.

It appears that in terms of design, the new iteration almost resembles its predecessor except for the absence of the metallic bezel and the presence of a Home button (which is probably included for the reported fingerprint sensor feature, claimed to be faster than Apple's Touch ID). The benchmark results show that it may be ahead of some flagship devices in terms of performance but it is behind HTC M9 and Samsung Galaxy S6. This might be due to adjustments made with the chip as the processor has some heating issues, which Android Authority noted in the case of its older brother. The back side was also not shown so there is still no information about whether the well-liked back covers of the OnePlus One will be retained or whether it now sports metal as early rumors indicated. OnePlus' proprietary Oxygen OS was also on display and it runs on Android L.
