Miley Cyru's performance with Robin Thicke at last night's VMAs sent the Twitter-verse into a frenzy, as millions reacted to the star's raunchy and bizarre mash-up of "We Can't Stop" and "Blurred Lines," but what does her father Billy Ray Cyrus think of her on-stage antics?

It's the performance everyone is talking about, and apparently Billy Ray had no problems with his daughter gyrating on and licking Robin Thicke on live television, as the country singer had only positive things to tweet for his birthday yesterday.

Viewers had much different responses, however, as Miley's masturbation simulations and ass-slapping was considered by many to be over-the-top and nearly unwatchable. While some fans consider the performance funny and oh so very Miley, others are criticizing the star for acting inappropriate and trying too hard to make a statement, whatever that statement may be. Others are wondering if Thicke anticipated what the performance of his hit single would devolve into.

"Robin thought it would be fun to include Miley, but he didn't realize how much she would overshadow him," a source told US Weekly. "This was his big night and big performance, who broke out in a big way this year with 'Blurred Lines.' I don't think he would have done it knowing what it ended up like."

But according to a close friend of Thicke's, "he had fun and was fine with how it came out. He knew what they were going to do and thought it was fun and awesome. He had a great time." Though Thicke may not have expected the "Can't Be Tamed" singer to be so overtly sexual on-stage with him, apparently Miley's team was less than happy about how she behaved.

"Miley's team is freaking about that performance," an insider revealed to US Weekly. "They saw the rehearsals, but those were really played down compared to the live performance." While celebrities' reactions were quickly capped into hilarious gifs, others took to Twitter to mock the 20-year old singer, who made a big deal on Twitter about leaving early as she predicted she wouldn't win anything at the awards show.

As for Thicke's wife Paula Patton, TMZ reports that she was not mad at Miley for feeling up her husband, despite reports that she "went ballistic" after Miley felt up his crotch and kissed and licked his neck.

While many called out Miley's overt sexualization, others continued critiquing the singer for her use of black women as props, as she has spent the last year "toying with racial imagery" and arguably appropriating aspects of black culture, according to Vulture, an editor at the entertainment news accusing the star of "annexing working-class black 'ratchet' culture, the potent sexual symbolism of black female bodies, to the cause of her reinvention: her transformation from squeaky-clean Disney-pop poster girl to grown-up hipster-provocateur."

If you want more Miley Cyrus, her new single "Wrecking Ball" is now available on iTunes, the second single off of her upcoming album "Bangerz," her first after leaving Disney's Hollywood Records.
