Oreos cookies are sporting a new look designed to appeal to grown-ups. Branded "Oreo Thins," these slimmer versions of the best-selling cookie cut down the calorie content but have the same cookie-to-filling ratio as regular Oreos. A serving of three regular Oreos has 160 calories while a serving of four Oreo Thins has only 140 calories, says manufacturer Mondelez International, according to ABC News.

It's hoped the reduced calorie cookie version will prove more appealing to adult consumers – although Mondelez clarifies Oreo Thins are not meant to be a weight loss food, according to ABC News.

Being a grown-up snack, Oreo Thins are not for twisting and dunking, a tradition that half of Oreo consumers do before stuffing the regular cookie into their mouths.

"If people want to do that, it's clearly up to them," Janda Lukin, senior director of Oreo for North America, said, according to ABC News.

"At Oreo, we know that some of our fans have grown up and their tastes have grown up, too," said Patty Gonzalez, Senior Brand Manager of Oreo at Mondelez International.  "With this in mind, we're excited to introduce Oreo Thins as a new take on the classic cookie," she added, PR Newswire reports.

Gonzalez said the delicate yet crisp design of the Thins was aimed at consumers who have enjoyed the taste of the regular Oreo but are looking for "a more sophisticated cookie."

Oreo Thins come in three flavors: Original, Golden and Mint, according to U.S. Magazine.

On July 7, Oreo is giving out a one-time only "Thinvitation" on Twitter and Instagram. People who want to join the fun can follow Oreo in these social media channels and watch out for the "Thinvitation" code to have a chance to win a pack of Oreo Thins, U.S. Magazine reports.

Oreo Thins will be available in stores starting July 13.
