Demi Lovato was recently accused of ripping off fellow pop stars Katy Perry and Jessie J in her new single, "Cool For The Summer." She spoke out and defended herself on Twitter, Billboard reports.

"Cool For The Summer" is the first single off of her upcoming fifth studio album. The former Disney star announced its release on Wednesday and performed it live during a rooftop pool party in New York City hosted by local radio station Z100 in an event for her most supportive fans.

But the Twitterverse seems less supportive. Many fans tweeted out their opinion that Lovato's new song sounds a lot like Katy Perry's 2008 hit "I Kissed A Girl" and Jessie J's 2011 hit "Domino." The lyrics in Lovato's "Cool For The Summer" echo Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" in that both have suggestive language about a girl-on-girl tryst and Lovato even emulates Perry's breathy vocal delivery. In the chorus, Lovato sings "Take me down into your paradise..." in a similar melody that Jessie J uses when she sings "Rock my world until the sunlight" in the chorus of her song "Domino."

Entertainment Tonight posted an article compiling fans' twitter reactions, and Lovato used her own personal Twitter account to fire back and deny the similarities.

"Sounds nothing like it," Lovato tweeted to ET. "And with all the advances we've made in the LGBT community, I think more than one female artist can kiss a girl and like it." She punctuated her sassy response with a winking emoji.
