The Sleepy Hollow Fire continues to be a threat in the town of Wenatchee, Wash., after destroying nearly 11 homes.

The deadly fire had already raced down some 1,800 acres and burned down at least six homes in the town of Wenatchee, which is 140 miles east of Seattle, according to NBC News.

Washington State Fire Marshall spokesman Bill Slosson said evacuation orders were in place for at least 80 homes in the path of the fire, NBC added.

The fire in the Sleepy Hollow Heights neighborhood east of Wenatchee broke out around 2:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. EDT) on Sunday.

Dominick Bonny (@DBonny) on June 29 tweeted that he saw houses suddenly go up in flames. Bonny tweeted that people stopped at Highway 2 to watch as the fire gutted through homes.

The hot, dry and windy conditions did not bode well for the firefighters on Sunday. Possible thunderstorms were expected at the fire area on Monday morning, according to CNN.

The severe arid weather will likely worsen in the Northwest as the month of July progresses, CNN reported, raising the possibility of more dangerous wildfires.
