Microsoft's widely-used Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs will now be available on smart phones and tablets that run on Google-backed Android software, extending one's office experience while on mobile devices.

The apps are already available on Google's online Play Store for free, CNET reported. Microsoft has applications designed for Android-powered tablets as well as Apple iPhones or iPads.

"I'm pleased to announce the general availability of the new Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps for Android phone," Microsoft Office team corporate vice president Kirk Koenigsbauer said in the Office Blogs.

"These join our previously released Office apps for Android tablets to complete the Office experience for the millions of Android users around the world," he added.

As per feedback of users during the apps' preview period, Microsoft has made it easy to connect with digital file storage services Box, Google Drive and OneDrive, Koenigsbauer said in the blog post.

With the apps' availability on major mobile platforms, Microsoft hopes that it will encourage more people to subscribe to its online Office 365 service.

The Android launch comes as Microsoft partners with more than 30 device makers, including Samsung, Dell and LG, to pre-install Office and Skype on Android devices.
