"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will return the franchise to the height of pop culture when it hits theaters this December. But Disney and Lucasfilm are hoping that the film does much more than that. The studios want (read: need) "The Force Awakens" to lay the foundation for the new trilogy and upcoming series of Anthology films.

All "Star Wars" fans can agree that the prequel films did not live up to the immense hype. But one saving grace from those movies was Ewan McGregor's portrayal of a younger Obi-Wan Kenobi. Is it possible that Lucasfilm could bring McGregor back as Obi-Wan for a future spinoff film? The actor himself is on board with the idea.

"I'd be happy to do the story from episodes three where I finish up and Alec Guinness starts," McGregor said via the Daily Record. Guinness portrayed Obi-Wan in the original "Star Wars" from 1977 and is the only actor in the franchise who has been nominated for an Academy Award for his role in the saga.

For months, Lucasfilm has been rumored to be in talks with McGregor regarding a potential Kenobi standalone film (or films). Although nothing has been announced officially, it sounds as if there is mutual interest in the project.

Fans have already seen Obi-Wan's rise from Padawan to Jedi Master and even a posthumous Obi-Wan giving Luke Skywalker advice from beyond the grave. Detailing what happened to him in between Episodes III and IV sounds like an exciting film that can help fill in the blanks.
