Hackers attacked the airline ground computer systems of Polish airline LOT at Warsaw's Chopin Airport on Sunday, leaving around 1,400 passengers grounded, reported Reuters.

Ten of the state-owned carrier's national and international flights were canceled and a dozen more were delayed, said spokesman Adrian Kubicki.

LOT took care of the grounded passengers by providing new flights or overnight hotel accommodations.

According to Kubicki, the safety of ongoing flights was not compromised, and flights destined for Warsaw were able to land safely.

"We're using state-of-the-art computer systems, so this could potentially be a threat to others in the industry," said Kubicki, according to BBC News.

The Warsaw airport, other airports and airplanes that were already in the air were not affected by the incident.

The attack is currently being investigated as the source of the hack is still unknown. The computer system, used to issue flight plans, was fixed five hours after it was hacked.
